Upgrade Path
  • From Windows® XP Professional models and Windows® XP Tablet PC edition models, it is possible to upgrade to Windows® Vista Ultimate Edition or Business Edition.
  • For models prior to XP SP1a, it is necessary to first upgrade to Windows® XP SP2. For XP Tablet Edition SP1a, it is necessary to upgrade to XP Tablet Edition 2005.
  • Upgrades to Vista Home Premium and Vista Home Basic can only be done by a clean install. (However, we have not verified operation.)
  • From Windows® 2000, you can only do a clean install regardless of the edition.

Upgrade
 for MUI model
  • To upgrade the MUI model to Windows® Vista and switch among multiple languages, the English version of Vista Ultimate Edition is required.
  • Use the Windows® Vista Ultimate upgrade DVD and upgrade after first changing the Windows® XP language and regional settings to English.
  • After completing the upgrade, select Start -> Windows Ultimate Extra and then download and install the language pack for each language. (Undecided when language packs will appear.)
  • The following restrictions apply when upgrading To Windows® Vista Business.
  • It is only possible to upgrade to the English version of Windows® Vista.
  • For languages other than English, you can only do a clean install. (You cannot continue to Use data that was used on a Windows® XP computer.)
  • Use a Windows® Vista Business upgrade package for the intended target language with the system set to the language other than English. After upgrading, you can only use the computer in that language.

Windows® Aero
 (Intel 945, ATI)
  • To automatically turn Aero on, expand the system memory to 1 GB or more.
  • Aero may be off by default even if the system memory is 1 GB or more. Do the following to manually turn it on:
    Control Panel -> Customize Desktop
    -> Personal Settings -> Customize Color
    -> Select "Windows® Aero" for "Color Scheme".

Windows® Aero
 (Intel 915, 855)
  • To make Windows® Aero active, the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) is required. Since there is no WDDM driver available for these models, Aero cannot be activated.

Audio Property
  • In the audio properties, you cannot select mono speaker even if the speaker is mono. This will not adversely affect operation.
      
(6)
BitLocker Drive Encryption
  • Since the BIOS is not supported, you will not be able to use all of the Bitlocker function even if you have upgraded to Vista Ultimate.

HDD Backup
The HDD backup function will not work.
  • HDD backup cannot be used with Windows® Vista.
  • Please use the Windows® Vista Windows Backup function.

Recover Pro
  • You will not be able to upgrade to Vista if Recover Pro for XP is installed. (You will not be able to boot.) You must uninstall Recover Pro6 before upgrading.
  • Please use the Windows® Vista Windows Backup function.

HDD Recovery Partition
After returning from standby, unused disk space may be displayed when you open Disk Management.
  • After resuming from standby (sleep), the HDD recovery area will be displayed as unused space when you redisplay by right clicking Computer and then select Manage -> Disk Management. Be careful not to delete it.

HDD Recovery
  • When reinstalling Windows® XP using HDD recovery after doing a clean install of Windows® Vista, do not select "(3) Reinstall Windows to the first partition". EasyRestpre is not compatible with Windows® Vista.

Full screen mode of Command Prompt Window
  • You will not get a full screen display of the Command Prompt window by pressing Alt + Enter. This is the same even if you set Aero to OFF. With the WDDM driver, you cannot make the Command Prompt window a full screen using ALT + Enter.

Tablet Function
The Tablet function (screen rotate icon for input pad and mobility center screen) will not appear evem if you have upgraded to Vista.
  • Since, with the above models, the touch screen controller is not supported, the tablet function will not be operational.
  • The only models with which the Vista tablet function will be operational after upgrading are the CF-18 digitizer model and the CF-T4 Japanese TS (XP Tablet) model.

Tablet Button
  • The tablet button will not operate when the model is upgraded. A Vista compatible driver is scheduled to be available on the website after Vista comes on sale.

Mobility Center
Brightness cannot be changed at the mobility center.
  • Since the BIOS is not supported, you cannot change the brightness at the mobility center. (A BIOS revision for the addition of this function is not slated.)
  • Change the brightness using the hotkey (Fn + F1, F2 + F2). (A Vista compatible version of the hotkey driver will be available on the Web after Windows® Vista enters the market.)

Intel PROSet
Intel® PROSet for Windows® Vista is not released.
  • The following functions are not supported on Windows® Vista.
  • EAP-MD5,  EAP-SIM,  EAP-TTLS,  CCX,  CKIP,
  • LEAP,  EAP-FAST,  EAP-PEAP-GTC,
  • Pre-Logon Connect,  Persistent Connect,  CCKM.
  • If you need to use these functions, you should not upgrade to Windows® Vista.
  • Intel® PROSet for Windows® XP doesn't work on Windows® Vista. Write down the settings, and uninstall it before upgrading.

Calibration for Touchscreen
Vista calibration does not work. (You cannot calibrate even if it shifts.)
  • TS driver is required separately. (A Vista compatible version of the hotkey driver will be available on the Web after Windows® Vista enters the market.)

TPM
  • Infineon TPM Professional Package for Windows® Vista is not released now. (as of Feb 9, 2007)
If you would like to use this program, do not upgrade you PC to Windows® Vista until Infineon TPM Professional Package for Windows® Vista is released. Infineon TPM Professional Package for Windows® Vista will be uploaded on the Support information Home Page.
  • Before upgrading to Windows® Vista, release the Encryption of all files and uninstall the program.

Fingerprint
If installed, Protector Suite QL 5.4 will hinder and not allow setup of Windows® Vista to proceed. It is required that you update to PSQL5.6, which is compatible with Windows® Vista.
Also, if it is currently set to use TPM, it is required that you set beforehand the registered fingerprint data so that TPM is not used before upgrading.

  • You cannot use Hotkey (Fn + Fx) when upgraded.
  • Do not install Hotkey Driver for Windows® XP after installing Vista. You will get the blue screen.

Since the way Volume Control works on Vista has changed, you cannot use Hotkey (Fn + F5, F6). (After Windows® Vista enters the market a compatible application (Hotkey Appendix) is slated for availability on the support website.)

Touchpad Utility
The mouse cursor may freeze.
A Windows® Vista compatible version is slated for availability on the support website. You must uninstall the wheel pad utility before upgrading. A batch uninstaller is slated for availability.

Blocked applications
You will not be able to continue with the Vista upgrade unless the following applications are uninstalled beforehand.
  • DVD RAM driver
  • Toshiba Bluetoosh Stack
  • PC Information Viewer for CF-51mk1.

PC Information Viewer
A Windows® Vista compatible version is slated for availability after Windows® Vista enters the market. In the Vista-compatible PC information viewer, hard disk drive managment information (on time, number of on times, internal temperature, number of alternating sectors, etc.) is periodically saved onto the hard disk. The amount of data saved is no more than 750 bytes each time.
This information is only used to infer the cause if for some reason the HDD should fail. Therefore, this information is not transmitted outside via the network or used for any other purpose.
To deactivate this function, place a checkmark in the checkbox next to "Disable automatic save function for management information history" in "Hard disk status", and then click OK.

Caution after Upgrade
After upgrading, do not run Setup, unless the Windows® XP application in C:\util\ and below, has been specified. It may not work properly.

Bluescreen may occur when using First User Switching
The blue screen will appear if you use user switching (First User Switching).
Video driver problems. Regarding the schedule for compatible drivers after Vista enters the market, even the most recent versions currently available have not been corrected.

Transferring speed via LAN is very slow.
Compared to using AC power, the transfer speed with batteries when using a LAN is extremely slow and prone to disconnection. (Problem with Inbox Realtek LAN driver.)

Bluescreen may occur when you power off the Wireless lan device.
The blue screen may appear when a wireless LAN device is turned off. (Problem with Inbox Marvell LAN driver.)

PC may stop working at "Windows Flag" is displayed when rebooting..
When launching Vista during or after upgrading, the Windows flag display screen may hang. If this happens, remove and re-insert the DC in jack. This may fix the problem.
A compatible BIOS is slated for availability after Windows® Vista enters the market.

Sound may not occur after Upgrade
There is no sound after upgrading. There is an "X" over the speaker icon.
(Now verifying the restoration procedure.)

Sound may not occur from Headphone after Upgrade
There is no sound from the headphones after upgrading.
After upgrading uninstall Sigmatel Audio using the Add or Remove Programs Control Panel and then double-click C:\util\drivers\sound\setup.exe and reinstall the sound driver.

Video Issue after resuming from Hibernation. (Intel 945)
  • After Hib/Res, the screen display destination cannot be switched by pressing and holding down Fn + F3.

With the computer in sleep mode and the LCD panel shut, the computer hangs when you attempt to resume by pressing the power button.

OS issue after logon a user (Sleep)
After Sus/Res, it resumes on its own when Sus is invoked right after user log on.

OS issue after logon a user (Changing display resolution)
  • The resolution becomes 1024 x 768 immediately after upgrade installation. (models with resolutions greater than 1024 x 768)
  • Click Start -> Control Panel -> Adjust screen resolution, and set to the desired resolution.

Cannot power on the embeddedUSB drive once power off it.
Sometimes after turning off the internal drive off it is not possible to turn it back on. When this happens, USB devices, SD cards and PC cards won't be recognized. Also, it won't be possible to shut down the PC.
This is a problem with Windows® Vista. When this phenomenon occurs, forcibly turn the power off. After Windows® Vista enters the market, an OS repair module is slated for availability on the Web.

HSDPA driver (Mobilink)
  • Mobilink for Windows® Vista has not yet released, so please wait to upgrade until the Moblink for Windows® Vista is released. (This driver will be released in May)
  • This driver doesn't work properly. So please uninstall the next procedure.
  • Select [Control Panel] - [Add or Remove Programs] - [Mobilink]
  • Click [Remove].
  • Click [Yes] for [Are you sure you want to remove Mobilink from your computer?] window.
  • Restart Windows.
    * You would change the setting for Wireless WAN to [Disable] with ROM Setup.

Gemplus Smartcard reader driver for Windows® Vista is not released now. (as of Feb 15 2007)
  • If you would like to use SmartCard, do not upgrade you PC to Windows® Vista until the driver for Windows® Vista is released.
  • If you upgrade to Windows® Vista and use SmartCard reader, Bluescreen may occur.

SD Memory Card and SD card slot 
  • ReadyBoost feature is unavailable for the internal SD Memory Card Slot.
  • Do not change the options (check boxes) in the [Check disk options] in [Properties] - [Tools] - [Error-checking] when you check errors for SD Memory Card. Windows® Vista has an issue about check disk function.
